Strategic Buyer - Transportation/Warehousing services

LANXESS UK is currently seeking a strong, motivated and talented individuals with the appropriate experience for the position of Strategic Buyer - Transportation/Warehousing services.

Location: LANXESS UK, Trafford Park, Manchester.

Primary responsibility:

The primary responsibility of this role is to provide efficient procurement of transportation and warehousing related services for LANXESS UK sites. Activities would include purchasing of services for transportation of packaged goods / bulk materials, local warehousing and storages and customs brokerage. The position requires the ability to provide regular insights into the respective supply markets, develop procurement strategies as well as collaboration with different external and internal stakeholders.

 Key Responsibilities:

• Steering of tender processes for domestic UK transportation demand in consideration of regional transport procurement strategies
• Development of local procurement strategy and execution of negotiations for local UK 3rd party warehousing services for different businesses and sites in alignment with supply chain requirements
• Commercial responsibility for customs broker services necessary on behalf of LANXESS UK, for inbound and outbound clearances in the UK
• Contract management for all contract and price agreements for services in area of responsibility
• Supplier performance reviews and local claim management
• Installing and continuous optimization of procurement process and standards in coordination with the Global Business Service Centre and business responsible on domestic transportation, warehousing and customs related services for LANXESS sites in the UK
• Ongoing local transportation and warehousing market observation and monitoring
• Acting as local interface for global and local providers of ocean, freight forwarding and related services in the UK

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Deep functional knowledge of transportation processes and storage requirements for chemicals
• Knowledge of international trade and customs processes would be beneficial
• Excellent team working and communication skills to be able to work collaboratively in an international corporate environment with interfaces at LANXESS group and local UK level
• Strong analytical, conceptual and presentation skills
• Previous experience with SAP as ERP system essential
• Networking skills to manage multiple interfaces
• Readiness to travel mainly domestically

 Education/Experience:

• Associates Degree, Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management preferred; Institute of Logistics DIPLOG or MILT
• 3-5 years’ professional experience required in other commercial positions (either from procurement or sales perspective related to chemical logistics)
• Project Management Experience would be an advantage
